Fire departments in Georgia joined forces in a rigorous rescue operation to save a massive 1,600-pound (approx. 725 kg) horse after it slipped, ended up stuck on its side, and was unable to stand up in a creek behind its owner's property this past Tuesday.
According to a social media post by the Forsyth County Fire Department, the Rescue 12 crew was immediately dispatched to the scene after the owner discovered the horse immobilized in the water.
Due to the animal’s sheer size and weight, the responders called for specialized assistance from the Cherokee County Fire Department’s Technical Large Animal Rescue Team.
"Both departments worked together over 5 hours trying different strategies to help the animal up," the post stated. "Ultimately, we used Cherokee's large animal tripod to lift the horse to its feet."
Following the successful rescue, an on-site veterinarian thoroughly examined the horse. Once feeling returned to its legs, the animal was able to walk safely back to its stable.
